Hi, I'm Ash Flanders and apparently I'm a multi-award winning playwright, performer and screenwriter from sunny Melbourne.
In 2006, I formed theatre company Sisters Grimm with Declan Greene and together we made over a dozen shows including Summertime in the Garden of Eden (Griffin Theatre), Little Mercy (Sydney Theatre Company), The Sovereign Wife (Melbourne Theatre Company), Calpurnia Descending (Malthouse Theatre / Sydney Theatre Company), and Lilith: The Jungle Girl (Melbourne Theatre Company / Traverse Theatre Scotland). You can learn more about our work HERE.
As a solo writer/performer I've created Meme Girls (Malthouse Theatre), Special Victim (Feast Festival), Playing to Win (Arts Centre Melbourne) and ASH FLANDERS IS NOTHING (Adelaide Cabaret Festival), as well as the cabaret-farce SS Metaphor and naturalistic drama This Is Living, both commissioned by Malthouse Theatre.
I have presented work for the Emerging Writers’ Festival, The Wheeler Centre’s Show of the Year, as well as Women of Letters, with my letter published in the book Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Women of Letters. My comedic short film The Divine Decadence of Cheesecake played at Frameline, Out On Film, Mardi Gras Film Festival and LLFF Canada and my web series FRIENDLY reached over 10K views.
Most recently I adapted my solo show End Of. into a TV pilot for Werner Productions and it's currently being shopped by Great Scott Productions. In 2024 I was selected by the Athenaeum Group to be their playwright-in-residence and completed my latest solo work, A Brief Episode, as well as the pitch black comedy, Commentary, being produced by State Theatre Company of South Australia in 2026.
At the moment I'm working on a brand new opera with Sarah Giles and Luke DiSomma as well as a comic crime TV series with Clea Frost. I 've also been doing some acting. If you'd like to know more about that side of things, head HERE, or HERE or contact my agents at mkm@mollison.com
I often provide dramaturgical advice and writing support to other independent artists including: Mish Grigor, Jude Perl, Anthony Kuiper, Natalie Gamsu and Geraldine Quinn. I've taught students at The Australian College of the Arts, Federation University and Patrick School of Arts. If you would like to work with me, get in touch!
Oh, and I'm about to star in my first ever TV series – DOG PARK for ABC. What a time to be alive!
